When Brad and Ed took over Carpet Style from Brad's dad five years ago, they knew they wanted to build it into a business that could support a future generation of trades people, as well as create a positive work environment and give back to the community.

Carpet Style was first set up in 1981 by Brad's father Ray, and the business has stayed proudly independent and family-run ever since.

On 10 August, Brad and Ed opened a brand-new show room on Ashby's Market Street, allowing customers to meet the team, get a feel for their extensive range of flooring options and have any questions answered.

Customer satisfaction is at the heart of what Carpet Style do, with over 700 five-star reviews to prove it.

An important part of what sets them apart from other flooring businesses is all of their fitters are employees, rather than outsourcing to a contractor so customers only deal with one business, one price and one payment.

This ensures consistent high quality from start to finish as well as easier communication throughout.

Another key part of their business is that they prioritise giving jobs to local people, having grown from 7 to 32 employees, taking on two apprentices a year.

According to Brad, a big problem in the carpet industry is that there is a deficit in younger fully trained fitters, with more fitters retiring every year than are being trained.

'This is our fourth year of taking on apprentices, and it's something we're committed to keeping up.

'Our teams are employed rather than subcontracted, and we train them ourselves, from apprentice through to time-served fitter.'

Providing work opportunities for young people that give them everything they need to continue a career in the carpet industry is one way Carpet Style have created a great business to work for.

They also have cultivated a very positive work environment, which is something Ed and Brad are proud of. They regularly hold activities for the team, including fishing and five-aside.

The new showroom is open at 70-72 Market Street in Ashby, stocking carpets, LVT flooring, laminate, engineered wood and vinyl, as well as rugs, beds and a friendly face to ask any questions.
