Ashby's Tesco Extra store now has a 'traffic light' system to control the number of customers entering at any one time.

Shoppers must queue outside the entrance and the doors are close if the red light shows.

Tesco explained they have introduced the system to help with social distancing as part of the current coronavirus restrictions.

A Tesco Spokesperson told Ashby Nub News: "The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority.

"To help with social distancing, we are introducing a new traffic light system at store entrances which will tell customers when they can safely enter."

The system works by monitoring the flow of customers into and out of the store.

If the number of customers exceeds the maximum allowed, a red light will show.

Once it is safe for a customer to enter, the light will turn green.

Tesco expects it will take a few months to install the system across its stores.

Last month, Tesco announced it was limiting the sale of certain items Tesco introduces rationing measures.

Tesco also announced a series of changes when the Government lockdown was introduced in March and shopper began panic buying Tesco announces new coronavirus measures.

That included a one way system in the store which was later removed.
