Police discovered a naked man in a car park in Calke on Saturday.

Officers from Melbourne and Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team approached the man, who had his car engine running but was wearing no clothes.

The man, alone in the vehicle, was questioned by police and explained he had ended up there 'by accident' after making as series of wrong turns.

He said he had left home to buy a packet of wet wipes.

Another man in a nearby car - fully clothed - was fined for breaching lockdown rules.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police told Ashby Nub News he would not confirm the exact location of the car park - but it is understood to be in the Calke area close to Ashby.

The nude man was also fined and given community protection notice warning.

A post on the Melbourne and Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team Facebook page, explained what happened.

The post reads: "Officers have received reports from rangers working at beauty spots that a number of local car parks are being blighted by discarded wet wipes and other litter.

"Quite rightly, the rangers – many of whom give their time as volunteers – are very concerned that the used wet wipes and other soiled items pose a public health risk to families who meet in the car parks for essential exercise.

"Following these reports officers have been working in partnership with the rangers to tackle this unwanted and distressing antisocial behaviour, which tends to take place after-dark.

"Whilst on routine patrol yesterday, (Saturday 6 February), officers were alerted to a parked Mazda vehicle with its engine running in a closed public car park in South Derbyshire.

"On pulling up next to the car officers were startled to discover a lone male in a complete state of nature.

"Naturally, officers challenged the nude male, asking him why he was in a closed car park.

"The man claimed he had stumbled across the car park by accident after taking several wrong turns, having just made a specific journey to a shop to purchase a pack of wet wipes.

"However, the male was unable to provide a reasonable excuse of why he was stark naked in the car park during the height of a national lockdown.

"As a result of his bare-faced-cheek the man was issued with a community protection notice warning, prohibiting him from engaging in acts of an antisocial behaviour nature, including insisting he wears clothes in public places and not discarding rubbish and wet wipes in car parks across South Derbyshire.

"He was also issued a fine for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

"A further clothed male, parked in a separate vehicle in the same car park, was also issued with a fine for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

"Please keep safe and only make essential journeys."
