Central England Co-op is considering an option to turn the Ashby shop formerly occupied by New Look back into a supermarket.
The unit vacated by the clothing store during the most recent lockdown and joined a number of businesses leaving the town centre.
But the building is owned by Central England Co-op who are deciding what to do with it next.
A scheme understood to be one of the options for the society is a move for the Co-op's current store at the other end of Market Street to move into the empty premises.
When this suggestion was put to Central England Co-op last week, a spokesman told Ashby Nub News: "The site in Market Street, Ashby formerly occupied by New Look is owned by the Society.
"As the site is currently vacant we are exploring all options for its future use."
The site has seen a supermarket there before and was once the home of Kwik Save in Ashby - and the Co-op are keen to have it operating again.
Despite some shops closing during the pandemic, other businesses have moved into the two with a clear aim to get Ashby back to what it was as soon as possible with a clear roadmap out of lockdown now in sight.
