Ashby Ivanhoe 3 Hinckley AFC 1

A brace from Dan Quinn saw Ashby to victory against a strong Hinckley in front of a season high crowd.

His pair of strikes ensured Ivanhoe closed the gap to second-placed Bilston who dropped points..

Despite what turned out to be a dominant display - in front of 183 supporters - it was the visitors who struck first through Jack Edwards curling effort.

Picking up the ball outside of the area, the Hinckley number 11 produced a stunning effort which found the net after striking under side of the crossbar.

Behind against the run of play, Ivanhoe's response was swift, equalising less than ten minutes later from the penalty spot.

Will Groocock superbly held up the ball just inside the box and was brought down from behind, allowing Quinn to slot the ball past the goalkeeper from 12 yards.

Groocock's impact has often been from the bench this season due to the form of the other forwards, but he made the most of his opportunity today, once again providing as Ashby took the lead minutes later.

His solo run from the corner flag to the edge of the box set up Will Robson whose strike with the outside of his foot found the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Brandon Bache stranded.

After the break, Ivanhoe increased their lead through Dan Quinn's second of the game.

Ash Garner this time the provider as his pass was smashed into the corner by Quinn.

For the rest of the second half, Ivanhoe's defence was largely untroubled.

Following Hinckley's early strike the hosts controlled the game, delighting manager Andy Gray who recognised the standards set by his side.

"Without trying to repeat myself I think it was the best performance of the season. They're technically a very good side and we were able to boss the game," he said.

Ashby return to action on Tuesday night as they host Coventry Copsewood.

Copsewood come into the game unbeaten in their last three and will be another stern test.
