Ashby Ivanhoe 3 Deeping Rangers 0

Ten-man Deeping Rangers were swept aside in a weather-affected match which saw Ashby Ivanhoe into the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

It was far from a vintage performance by Ivanhoe who were under the cosh for parts of the first half, they were able to make their man advantage count in the second however as the spirited visitors tired.

Deeping had the first half's two clearcut chances, the first a header from captain Spencer Tinkler who narrowly missed the target, and the other from David Burton-Jones, whose finish at the back post was cleared off the line by Will Robson.

Burton-Jones would see red a short time later for a late challenge on Ash Garner. There was no malice in the foul, however due to the height of Burton-Jones boot as he attempted to win the ball, the referee was left with little choice but to brandish the red card.

Buoyed by their man advantage, the second half saw an improved Ashby performance. Eight minutes into the it they took the lead as Sam Grouse latched onto the end of Garner's through ball and slotted into the far corner.

The goal was a carbon copy of Tuesday night's opener, with Garner once again providing a sensational assist for Grouse, this time with the outside of his boot.

Despite having the odds stacked against them, Deeping remained competitive in the match. The dangerous Matt Sparrow had their biggest chance to equalise, his one-on-one shot being denied by Sam Taylor who stood his ground and stopped the winger's tame finish with his right foot.

The ten men tired in the dying embers and Ivanhoe doubled their lead through Joel Carta five minutes from time. Driving into the box, the midfielder hit a right footed shot across goalkeeper Aaron Butcher, whose fingertips could not prevent the ball finding the bottom left corner.

With the tie all but sealed, Ivanhoe began to play with the freedom that their performance had lacked for the most part. In added time Grouse doubled his tally, seeing his shot from a narrow angle squirm under Butcher after beating the Deeping full-back on the left side of the penalty area.

They welcome Rossington Main to the NFU Sports Ground in the next round, before then however, Ashby travel to Wisbech to play their first away match of the league campaign, looking to continue their unbeaten start.
