When to expect Ashby town centre road closures - including one this weekend

A breakdown of future Ashby town centre road works - including one this weekend - has been issued by Leicestershire County Council.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has published them on social media and they are as a result of the current gas works which are affecting the route heading south of the town Constructors give timescale on town centre road works.

The update reads: "Works are ongoing for the new gas main for the Jaguar Land Rover development.

"These works are being undertaken by Fosse Civil Engineering on behalf of Matrix Networks.

"Please note these works are weather dependent and further information will be released as works progress:

  • 27/2/2021 – 28/2/2021 – Bath Street double mini roundabouts at the junction with Kilwardby Street. Close Bath Street and Kilwardby Street to enable the first part of the gas installation to be undertaken over the double mini roundabout at this location and to faciltate WPD and Cadent Gas to put in service supplies to two properties on Kilwardby Street.

Proposed Diversion Route for Kilwardby Street closure: Kilwardby Street from the Co-Op car park exit, Abbey Drive, Prestop Drive, Westfield Road, Burton Road, Derby Road and vice versa. During this closure there will be a temporary 'No Waiting at Any Time' on Hill Street.

  • Date to be confirmed for Phase 2 – Double mini Roundabout at Derby Road/Elford Street and Burton Road junction. The works at the double mini roundabouts on Derby Road are being undertaken in two phases.

Phase 1: Derby Road north of the double mini roundabouts between Burton Road and Ash Tree Road is now complete.

Phase 2: Close Derby Road south of the mini roundabouts on Derby Road between The Co-op and Elford Street, three-way temporary signals will be used to control the traffic from Elford Street, Burton Road and Derby Road (north side of the double mini roundabouts).

  • On-going until 4/3/2021 – Bath Street, Ashby de la Zouch
The trench for the steel pipe has been excavated under three-way temporary signals to escalate the works during lockdown.

A temporary closure on Bath Street will be required from South Street to the double mini roundabout junction with Kilwardby Street.

Proposed Diversion Route: Station Road, Tamworth Road, Measham Road, Ashby; A42, A511, Nottingham Road, Wood Street, Market Street, Bath Street, Ashby and vice versa. A temporary 'No Waiting at Any Time' restriction will be in place on Wilfred Place, Trinity Close and South Street.

  • To be confirmed – Double mini-roundabout at the junction with Derby Road and Elford Street

Close Derby Road between The Co-op and Bath Street and Kilwardby Street, two-way temporary signals will be used to control the traffic from Bath Street and Market Street.
