A van driver was taken to hospital after a collision in Ashby which led to a man being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Police closed off part of Smisby Road on Friday evening following the incident which left the van on its side and an Audi car on the pavement close to nearby houses.

It happened shortly after 10.30pm when the van driver hit a parked car.

Leicestershire Police say they are still investigating the incident.

A police spokesperson told Ashby Nub News: "Police were called at 10.38pm on Friday, October 28, after a van collided with a parked car in Smisby Road, Ashby.

"Officers attended the scene and the driver of the van was taken to hospital as a precaution

"A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
