Rising Ashby star Sekou Sylla says he had 'tears' after seeing his two hometown shows sell out in a day.

The singer - a former Ashby School student - announced earlier this month that he wanted to return to the town and play live.

That was after his first attempt last year was called off after he had set up a gig at the Venture Theatre.

Now he has arranged two more shows at the same venue - and they will go ahead next Wednesday and Thursday (April 26 and 27).

But the tickets have gone already and anyone applying now has to go on to a waiting list.

The reaction has stunned Sekou - who played a slot at the Glastonbury Festival last year.

He posted on social media: "That was you Ashby thank you.

"You are changing my life . You did that Ashby! You have no idea how grateful I am for your support.

"I was just a normal kid from Ashby. Tears."

Following the cancellation of last June's show, Ashby de la Zouch Town Council offered Sekou a slot at the Ashby Big Weekend.

Sekou also says his song 'Better Man' is due to be released as a single.

He was signed to a UK record label two years ago after posting a video of himself singing on TikTok.

But he was amazed to discover his video had notched up 3.1 million views and 16,000 comments overnight.

Sekou was even more surprised when he was approached by four record companies, including Good Soldier Records, which is home to well known artists including The 1975, Freya Ridings and Biffy Clyro.

He then signed his first record deal at the company's London offices and had been in talks to sign an American record deal with Warner Music.

Sekou, who has been performing his own songs and posting them on Instagram since he was at school.
