Two people in hospital after three-vehicle collision between Ashby and Measham

Two people were taken to hospital in Derby after a three vehicle collision between Ashby and Measham on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the incident in Gallows Lane just after mid-day - with two vans and a car involved.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue said there were initial reports of people being trapped in their vehicles.

Police and emergency services also attended with two people ferried to hospital in Derby.

The incident meant the route was closed for some hours, although it is believed there was some access to Champneys Springs.

A fire service report said: "One fire engine from Ashby Fire Station and one fire engine from Coalville Fire Station attended.

"There was damage to three vehicles - two vans and one car.

"Fire Crews were requested by police. Initial reports of people trapped.

"Casualties were assessed by Fire Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Two were transported to Derby Hospital by EMAS.

"Road was closed by police and remains closed until inspection by Highways Agency."
