Two men have been sentenced after pleading guilty to supplying drugs in the Measham area.

Lewis Beckford, 21, of Hawthorn Close, Measham, and Jordan Teale, 25, of Springfield Close, Ibstock, were sentenced at Leicester Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 27 May).

Beckford was given a 13-month sentence, suspended for two years. Teale was given a 32-week sentence suspended for 12 months.

Following several reports of suspicious activity in Measham, officers began an investigation in 2018.

Officers gathered intelligence that led to a warrant being executed under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act in May 2018 at a property in Hawthorn Close, Measham. A small amount of cannabis, cash and mobile phones were recovered.

Analysis of the phones provided evidence that the two men had been supplying drugs since October 2017.

In March 2019, the men were identified in a car on Tamworth Road, Ashby, and were found to be in possession of cannabis.

A concealed mobile phone was also recovered.

Beckford was charged with:

  • Supply of a controlled class B drug, namely cannabis
  • Two counts of possession of a class B drug, namely cannabis, with intent to supply

Teale was charged with:

  • Supplying a controlled class B drug, namely cannabis
  • Possession of a controlled class B drug, namely cannabis, with intent to supply

At a hearing at Leicester Magistrates Court on October 30, 2020, both men pleaded guilty to all charges.

Both men were also charged with supplying a controlled class A drug, namely cocaine, but the charges against both were dropped.

PC Steve Harrison said: "This has been an excellent example of officers working closely with the community.

"Following several reports of suspected drug dealing, we quickly acted and built a bank of intelligence that eventually led to the arrest of these two men.

"We would like to thank members of the public who came forward with information and encourage anyone with concerns about criminal activity to please get in touch.

"We take action on all reports we receive."
