Two drivers were taken to hospital yesterday evening (Sunday) after a collision with a van at Flagstaff Island on the junction with the A42 in Ashby.

But the van left the scene before the emergency services arrived - and Leicestershire Police are now carrying out an investigation into what happened.

The van was later found abandoned following the incident.

Officers said the vehicles were waiting at the red lights at the roundabout when the collision occurred.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Shortly after 8pm yesterday (Sunday, December 3), police received a report of a collision involving two cars and a van on the Flagstaff Island, Ashby.

"Police attended along with the ambulance and fire services.

"The drivers of both cars were taken to hospital for treatment.

"Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"The van had left the scene before officers arrived and was found abandoned nearby. It has since been recovered.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries in relation to the incident and anyone with information is asked to report online HERE or call 101, quoting incident number 637 of 3 December."
