Thousands of pounds worth of equipment has been stolen in a burglary at Ashby fire station.

Leicestershire Police are appealing for information following the incident, which happened last month.

Specialist cutting equipment was among the items taken by the thieves.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly after midnight on Thursday, September 21, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) station based in Wilfred Place, Ashby-De-La-Zouch was broken into.

"Stolen from one of the appliances was specialist cutting equipment, and tools used to respond to road traffic collisions, along with thermal imaging cameras, chargers and batteries."

PC Luke Jones is investigating the burglary.

He said: "Our LFRS colleagues play a crucial role in responding to incidents such as road traffic collision where some of this equipment is used.

"This burglary not only has a financial loss to the fire service but more importantly could have had a significant impact on their duties and commitment to serving the public.

"We are continuing to investigate this burglary and we would urge anyone who may have any information about the whereabouts of this equipment or the people responsible to get in touch."
