Ashby's Tesco Superstore is threatening to withdraw its recycling bank over 'misuse' of the facilities.

The supermarket, situated in Resolution Road close to the junction with the M42, has an area where the general public can drop off recyclable items such as newspaper, cardboard, plastic and clothing.

But Tesco says the bank is not being used properly and that, if the situation does not improve, they will remove the service.

A build-up and overflow of rubbish in the area was noticeable on Friday, but this had been cleared by Saturday morning.

However, a notice there reads: "This recycling bank is currently being misused.

"Please ensure that only relevant materials are placed within the bank.

"If these banks are full, please report it to the store's customer service desk who will arrange for the recycling banks to be emptied.

"Please do not leave excess or non-collected materials on the floor.

"If the area continues to be misused, Tesco may have no alternative but to remove this offer from the store."
