Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido are introducing Doggy Splash Sessions this month.

After running successful canine dips at a venue run by Everyone Active - which runs the centre in Ashby - there will be a trial during September.

That means all pooches are welcome to enjoy a doggy splash in the outdoor pool.

The dates to look out for are:

• Saturday, September 21

• Sunday, September 22

• Saturday, September 28

• Sunday, September 29

There are hour session slots each day:

• 10:00-11:00

• 11:30-12:30

• 13:00-14:00

• 14:30-15:30

One dog and one owner can attend for £15, with the centre saying 'additional humans' cost £9 each.

Customers will need to book in advance and can do so via the Everyone Active app or website, or by calling the centre on 01530 412181.

All participants must fill out a participation waiver when they arrive for the session.

A waiver will be provided before the session starts.

After the final session on September 29, the poolside area will be thoroughly disinfected and the pool filtered and cleaned as normal, following strict health and safety guidelines. The outdoor pool will then be closed for the season.

Duncan Gibb, Everyone Active's contract manager, said: "Doggy splash sessions are proving an increasingly popular activity around the country and we are really excited to be hosting our own at Ashby for the first time.

"We're a family-friendly leisure centre and we know dogs are considered family members too, so we're delighted to give them the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor pool.

"We're expecting the event to prove popular, so we're encouraging customers to book as early as possible to secure places for their canine companions."

The outdoor pool is 95 years old and is the last remaining public lido in the East Midlands. 

The facility has evolved in recent years, incorporating a beach feature in order to create the Ashby-by-the-Sea brand.

Cold water sessions and live DJ pool parties have been added, with doggy splash being the latest new addition.
