Ashby Police say they have spoken to a 'suspicious male' who was spotted outside at least three of the town's primary schools today (Friday).

Police have since re-assured residents that the matter has been dealt with after the man was located in Ashby town centre.

After speaking to the man, officers say he was trying to make contact with a woman he has been having an online relationship with.

A social media post from North West Leicestershire Police said: "Good afternoon, this is a reassurance message for Ashby residents, particularly those with children attending local primary schools in the town.

"Today we received several reports of a suspicious male attending local schools, including Ashby Hastings, Ashby Cof E and Woodcote Primary.

"The Beat team conducted further enquiries and, following an area search, they located the male in Ashby Town Centre.

"Having spoken at length to this male, we are satisfied that the school visits were an attempt to locate a local adult female who the man had been having an online relationship with.

"The male was given the appropriate advice and has now left the area.

"The schools involved have also all been updated."
