Communities across Ashby de la Zouch and North West Leicestershire are invited to take part in the second annual Love Your Neighbourhood Week of Action.

This will run from Monday, June 30 -Sunday, July 6 and organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC).

Following the success of last year's event, Love Your Neighbourhood's Week of Action 2025 aims to build greener, safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities through collective action.

Residents can take on a variety of projects, including litter picking, planting in shared spaces, installing composting units, supporting elderly neighbours with their gardens, organising recycling drives, and enhancing community buildings with hanging baskets.

Any activity that benefits the local environment and encourages community involvement is welcome.

The event is open to everyone, including individuals, businesses and community groups so that as many people as possible can contribute to making their neighbourhoods better places to live and work.

To celebrate and track the impact of these activities, volunteers are encouraged to register their events using a simple online form.

The registration process allows organisers to log their planned activities, the number of volunteers involved, and the estimated duration of their event.

To support volunteering, the following resources and grants are available:

  • Residents can apply to receive free litter-picking kits by completing a quick form at nwleics.gov.uk/litter
  • Constituted community groups, parish councils, schools, and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for up to five litter picking kits
  • Love Your Neighbourhood Grants:
  • Up to £500 for larger events that involve multiple local groups
  • £100 for smaller-scale events to help with running costs

To register your event, apply for equipment, or request a grant, visit nwleics.gov.uk/lynweek2025.

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at NWLDC, said: "Love Your Neighbourhood Week of Action is a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together and make a real difference in their local environment.

"Whether it's litter picking, planting or supporting neighbours, every small action adds up to create a greener, safer and more welcoming place for everyone.

"We encourage as many people as possible to get involved and show pride in their neighbourhoods."
