Measham is set to form part of North West Leicestershire's Love Your Neighbourhood initiative this summer.

Next week's council Cabinet meeting in Coalville is set to rubber stamp the three-year scheme aimed at improving the environment of the district – to make it cleaner and greener.

The Council says it cannot tackle this alone, but wants to bring people together to make improvements across the district and help to create civic pride.

It will be a campaign designed to continue to reduce litter, change behaviours and educate individuals - but it will also include a weekend of action across the whole of the district.

This will be on July 6/7 with Measham one of three areas being targeted as part of it - along with Thringstone and Greenhill in Coalville.

These areas will receive additional officer support to allow for pop-up events.

The themes and activities being developed in the three areas include the following:

• Low recycling rates

• Fly tipping

• Accumulations in gardens and fire risk – bulky waste

• Community litter picks

• Pavement parking

• Dog fouling

Tuesday's Cabinet meeting will hear that engagement with community groups is key in order for the campaign to have maximum impact across the district.

To help this, a comprehensive communication plan will sit alongside the campaign which will also include celebrating the achievements of volunteers.

The scheme will include an action plan for the first year of the campaign and the themes are:

• Changing behaviour

• Enforcement

• Community Engagement

The campaign was presented to the council's Community Scrutiny meeting earlier this month and the comments included:

  • The evaluation of Zero Litter was welcomed
  • LYN was supported and Community Scrutiny was pleased to see the Council looking to make a cleaner, greener District
  • Community Scrutiny would like an update/evaluation after the delivery of year one of LYN.
