North West Leicestershire District Council has this week launched Love Your Neighbourhood - a campaign that aims to bring together communities, improve the environment and keep streets and neighbourhoods clean and tidy.
As part of this, community groups, parish councils, schools and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for money to help deliver a community event within the district.
Up to £150 can be claimed for community environmental action. Groups and organisations can apply for the grant HERE.
The deadline to apply for the grant is Sunday, June 9.
The event must take place during Love Your Neighbourhood's Weekend of Action on Saturday, July 6 and/or Sunday, July 7.
The events funded could be anything that has an impact on the environment and gets the community involved. Here are some examples:
- Organising a litter-picking event in the community
- Planting in shared spaces
- Preparing for wildflowers
- Installing communal composting bins
- Helping older neighbours with their gardens
- Holding recycling events
- Installing hanging baskets on community buildings.
Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "Through our Love Your Neighbourhood Campaign, we aim to empower local groups to make a substantial difference in their surroundings.
"We have given out equipment to just under 600 volunteer litter pickers and this grant further demonstrates our support for volunteers across the district who want to help us keep our district clean and green for everyone.
"This is about showing pride in your area and using the support the council can offer to boost what you can achieve in your neighbourhood.
"I encourage everyone from all communities to come together to create a greener and cleaner district."
