The people who contribute to the community of North West Leicestershire - and the work they do locally - were celebrated at a special event last week.

It was an occasion that marked the 50th anniversary of North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) and brought together key figures, local organisations and community champions to reflect on the district's progress and achievements over the past five decades.

The event was officially hosted by the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Kenny Horn, who presented certificates for community contributions, and also announced the winner of the Legacy Award.

Those attending the occasion were also shown a specially made video featuring people and venues from around the district. You can see the film below.

A number of people from the Ashby and Coalville area were nominated for the prestigious Chairman's Legacy Award - which is designed to recognise those who have made a lasting impact on North West Leicestershire.

The deserving winner was David Smith, whose lifelong commitment to remembrance services and civic engagement was honoured.

Sadly, David passed away before the event, but his wife Mary accepted the award on his behalf, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire.

A range of people were recognised for community contributions, following nominations by district councillors for their exceptional service to the community.
