A 24 year old has been named as Metro Plumb's youngest ever franchise owner.

Harry Thompson has launched Metro Plumb Nottingham, part of a national network of domestic and commercial plumbing specialists which covers Coalville and Ashby

He completed an apprenticeship in plumbing and then gained valuable experience, working for local plumbing companies before joining the Metro Rod and Metro Plumb network of franchisees, working for Metro Rod.

It was during his time with Metro Rod that the aspiring business owner could see the possibilities offered through setting up his own business as part of a franchise network – and the rest is history.

Harry launched Metro Plumb Nottingham in February and has not looked back.

With qualifications in place, and eight years of varied plumbing experience under his belt, Harry says he takes great pride in a job well done and has already been commended by clients for his attention to detail.

He said: "I've always wanted to be my own boss and Metro Plumb has offered me the opportunity to achieve this.

"I can see that there's a huge shortage of tradespeople and there'll always be a need for plumbers.

"As well as developing my own clients locally, I'm fed work through from national and regional accounts and this has enabled me to hit the ground running."

A recent report, the UK Trade Skills Index 2023, says that demand is set to soar with over 70,000 new plumbers needed by 2032.

Harry added: "There's a massive shortage of plumbers as well as other tradespeople across the country.

"It's well illustrated by my experience with my fellow students. Of the 200 at my school, only four or five of us went into the trade. It's a shame."

Harry says he gets a real buzz out of resolving issues for clients and said: "One of my first call outs was to a domestic customer with a flooded house from a leak.

"To be able to quickly find the problem, and fix it, is a great feeling.

"I guess that job was quite easy for me as the problem was pretty obvious. It's not always like that and I love a challenge – and the bonus is that no two days are the same."

Harry is also looking to take on a couple of plumbers.

This will allow him to grow his business and build a team that can be deployed to meet the needs of customers across the East Midlands.

Services offered include dealing with emergencies and carrying out repairs as well as installing showers and appliances.

Metro Plumb currently operates from over 30 locations across the UK.
