Leicestershire Fire and Rescue responded to a 10-hectare scrubland fire in Ellistown on Thursday 13 August, requiring eight pumps to tackle the fire.

With the hot dry summer North West Leicestershire has already had, warnings about the risk of wild fires have been issued by Police across the region.

A report from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to a 'significant scrubland fire' off Bottram Road near Ellistown on 13 August.

According to the fire service, approximately 10 hectares of land were involved in the fire, with residents speaking out to thank fire crews for stopping the fire spreading further.

Eight water pumps were used by crews, as well as a water carrier and fogging unit to tackle the blaze and prevent further damage.

One resident commented saying: 'Thank you for saving our homes, it could've been so much worse.'

Another said: 'Every single one of you did an amazing job in the boiling heat.'
