Poppy Appeal launches in Ashby for 2026
By Grace Kennington 23rd Oct 2026
On 22 October, the Ashby and District Poppy Appeal officially launched across Ashby as we approach Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day.
Pete, the organiser of Ashby and District Poppy Appeal, has been busy working throughout the year to raise funds locally and has set up stands in Lidl, Aldi and Tesco selling poppies, crosses, wreaths and other poppy-themed items.
The Mayor of Ashby, Cllr Murrae Blair-Park, attended the launch, greeting Tesco shoppers with Pete at the stall.
Pete started volunteering for the Royal British Legion 10 years ago, starting in Swadlincote before moving to the Ashby and District area.

'It's my way of giving back to the community,' explains Pete.
This year, the Ashby and District Poppy Appeal is being supported by the Ashby Rotary Club, 41 Club, Ashby and Coalville Lions, Army Cadets, Ceva Logistics and Fisher German.
There will also be a shop window competition taking place in Ashby, with businesses invited to get involved. The windows will be judged on 2 November with winners announced the same day.
The stalls will be in Aldi, Lidl and Tesco until 5 November, with poppies and donation pots located in businesses throughout the town, as well as in surrounding villages.
