Police threaten action against e-scooter riders causing anti-social behaviour problems in Ashby
Ashby Police have raised concerns over youths riding e-scooters around the town centre - and threatened to seize them from the owners if problems continue.
Residents have issued complaints about the scooters - with some youths causing anti-social behaviour issues.
But with some of the scooters being ridden on the pavement, they are now considered a danger to pedestrians - and are breaking the law.
The police said: "We have received several complaints now regarding youths riding e-scooters on the roads and pavements around Market Street, South Street and North Street, Ashby.
"I have spoken with some youths regarding their use of e-scooters, and have issued some youths with a Section 59 Warning - which is the power the Chief Constable as issued to PCSOs - which means that if the perpetrator is found riding/using a motorised propelled vehicle in a manner to cause ASB twice, we can seize the said vehicle.
"A police officer can seize the vehicle the first time."
A social media post added: "This is against the law and we urge parents not to let your child use their e-scooters on the public roads or pavement.
"E-scooters are not allowed on the public highway and the rider will be either issued a Section 59 Warning of the Police Reform Act or have their e-scooter seized by officers."
