Police reveal essential maintenance work at Moira Furnace is being targeted by thieves

Police say that the works currently underway at Moira Furnace have been targeted by thieves.
North West Leicestershire District Council is carrying out essential maintenance to the historic visitor attraction near Ashby.
These include:
- Repairs to the flat roof (chimney platform) adjoining the bridge loft
- Repairs to the main roof and parapets
- Replacement of gutters and downpipes
- Internal repairs to plasterwork on the walls and ceiling to address damp
- Repair and recertification of electrical systems
But Leicestershire Police's Forest Beat team says that the works have attracted thieves as a result.
The teams also adds that anti-social behaviour is becoming a problem again in the area - and that both issues are among the officers' priorities.
A social media post says: "We have received reports relating to thefts and general ASB at Moira Furnace.
"The Furnace is undergoing works at the moment and have been targeted by thieves.
"We are also seasonally made aware of an increase of ASB as the lighter nights arrive
"We are committed to ensuring Moira Furnace remains a safe and enjoyable place to visit.
"We will work with the employees and volunteers at the site to provide support in targeting those causing harm."

The Forest Beat team says it will also focus on issues in Albert Village and adds: "You have said that there are issues surrounding drug dealing and associated ASB in The Close, Albert Village.
"This is a continuing priority as we are still working with partners and still receiving calls from residents.
"We have been completing regular consultations with local residents and are working with partners to work towards long-term resolutions. This remains a priority for us and we will continue to show an active presence in the area.
"We receive a number of reports relating to HGVs in the area of Albert Village. We understand the frustrations surrounding this and the associated safety of those residents affected.
"We will conduct targeted patrols in the area and work with the companies involved.
"We will hold specific operations to educate and enforce weight limits where appropriate and will also work with colleagues at NWLDC to ensure a joint approach."
