Police make arrests after cashpoint card crimes at bank in Ashby town centre

Two men have been arrested in connection with cashpoint crimes in Ashby.
Last month, Ashby police warned residents about ATM incidents at the Nat West Bank in Market Street.
A cash card theft system had been used twice after the machines were tampered with.
The offenders placed a template over the card reader which prevented the card from being ejected during the transaction.
They later removed the template and withdrew the card which was then used to withdraw money or use for other purchases.
Users were also asked to be careful of so-called 'shoulder surfers' who would be watching you make withdrawals.

But Ashby Beat Team have now issued an update, saying: "You may recall that we recently alerted you to the fact that ATMs in Ashby had been tampered with.
"This involved the insertion of a device into the card slot that prevented the card's removal.
"This happens outside banking opening hours to frustrate immediate reporting.
"We are pleased to report that two males have been arrested in connection with these offences, and no doubt charges will follow.

"Please continue to check any ATM facia prior to inserting your card, in particular around the card slot.
"If your card is not returned, make use of your mobile banking app, which often allows you to temporarily suspend your cards use until you can report the matter to your bank."
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police added today (Monday): "The Economic Crime Unit (ECU) is investigating several reports of bank cards being retained by an ATM at a bank in Market Street, Ashby.
"They happened between 24 February and 2 March, but it is believed there may be other unreported incidents dating back to 19 December.
"It has been identified that a skimming device was added to the machine, which resulted in it retaining the card.
"As part of the investigation, two men aged 38 and 35 were arrested on Thursday (6 March) on suspicion of theft. They have since been released on bail.
"Officers are looking to speak to anyone whose card was not returned at this machine between 19 December and 6 March.
"The ECU is urging people to remain vigilant when using ATMs. If you notice any recording equipment around the sides or top of the machine, please report it to the bank or shop hosting the machine.
