Two teenage girls were arrested yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after a video of another girl being repeatedly kicked and punched in Hood Park was posted on Twitter.

The two girls seen making the attack, are both 15 years old and, for that reason, cannot be named.

But police have confirmed that they have been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. Both girls were released on bail last night (Thursday).

The un-named victim was left with 'multiple injuries' following the incident which was captured on video and then went viral after it appeared on Twitter.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Regarding a video posted online of an incident in Ashby on Saturday (24 June), we can confirm that two girls aged 15 have this afternoon (Thursday 29 June) been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

"Our investigation into the incident is continuing."

Another video in which a woman is involved in an incident involving the same three girls was later posted on Twitter.

The first video appeared on Tuesday and shows an attack on the girl which Twitter user, @Deanceejay13 later confirmed the incident took place in Hood Park on Saturday.

In the online post, the pair of girls then proceed to stamp on as well as punch and kick the girl on the floor as she tries to protect her head with her hands.

They then stop for a few seconds to say something to the girl, before delivering a final flurry of kicks and then walking off.

Leicestershire Police said at the time they had seen the videos and have begun enquiries into both incidents.

The video was captioned by @Deanceejay13 and said: "This happened to my younger stepsister this weekend… wouldn't say boo to a ghost yet p***** up girls in the park jumped her???? Everyone share this please."

But the Twitter user then told Mail Online: "On Saturday, evening the victim was alone in a park where she arranged to see her friends.

"Shortly afterwards, she was then blindsided and brutally attacked by two local girls.

"These girls set about their attack by stomping and kicking the victim multiple times whilst laughing, spiting and shouting abuse.

"Onlookers watched, encouraged and video recorded the brutality with not one person coming to the victim's aid.

He added: 'More needs to be done to protect and prevent, in an age where social media can be used for so much wrong.

"The family hopes that the people are held responsible, the attackers the bystanders and let's not forget the person watching, laughing and videoing.

"Injuries that were sustained: Head injuries multiple places Hand injuries Bruises on hand, back, arms, legs Cuts and grazes, knees, head, shoulder, thighs.

"It is to be noted that these girls are still finding ways to send threats. I am appealing for information only."

The video has gone viral since being posted and prompted a series of shocked responses by other users.

It was retweeted over 6,000 times and attracted more than 4,000 comments.

Leicestershire Police released an updated statement yesterday which read: "We are aware of a video posted online showing a teenage girl being assaulted in the area of Station Road, Ashby on Saturday (24 June).

"Enquiries into the incident are continuing and officers from the North West Leicestershire Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) will be speaking to those involved.

"We are also aware of a second video posted online showing an incident involving a woman and two teenage girls.

"This is being looked at as part of our investigation. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police, quoting reference 23*392390."

It is reported that a second video, posted in reply to the first, was filmed a few moments after the initial incident, which shows the same three girls as well as an older woman involved in another brawl.

The woman - reported to be the mother of the victim of the attack - can be seen pulling the hair of one of the girls.

A number of other adults can also be seen in the video, with one man attempting to separate the two girls as they continue to exchange blows and people can be heard repeatedly saying 'stop'.

The fighting eventually ends after another man puts himself in between the two girls and another woman can be seen leading the woman away.
