An 100-strong Ashby poppy trail is set to appear in the town from the start of next month to mark the centenary of the Royal British Legion.

A series of 100 paintings has been organised by the Ashby Arts Festival and they are due to be in shop windows from Monday, November 1.

It follows the unveiling of a new artwork in Ashby earlier this month by local artist Katy Ferrari, which depicts a World War One scene with the men and animals who played their part in the conflict.

Ashby Arts Festival treasurer, Margaret Jones, gave details of the November trail being visible ahead of the town's Remembrance Sunday commemoration.

She told Ashby Nub News: "As it's the centenary of the Royal British Legion this year, we have artists creating 100 poppy paintings.

"They're going to be in shop windows around Ashby to create a trail.

"We're hoping they will be in place by November 1 and they will be staying there all over the Remembrance weekend.

"There will also be bidding slips, and you will be able to bid for the paintings - any money raised will go to the legion.

"It's something that will create a feeling of Remembrance around the town."
