Two North West Leicestershire bus services will continue to run in some form - after being under threat of being cancelled.

The Diamond Bus routes 125 and 129 were due to end - despite serving some of the district's rural areas.

The 125 runs from Castle Donington to Leicester - via Coalville, Hugglescote, Ellistown and Stanton.

The 129 runs from Ashby to Loughborough, taking in Peggs Green, Griffydam, Osgathorpe and Belton.

But now North West Leicestershire MP Amanda Hack has provided an update.

She said: "I am really pleased to say that I have had confirmation that the 129 service will continue to run following new agreements that Leicestershire County Council have now reached.

"This follows the recent announcement that Diamond Buses intended to cancel the service. The new operator, Arriva, will take over the route on June 2, with slight timetable tweaks, which will be available next week.

"Diamond was due to cease running the 125 Service from June 2; however, this has been extended until July 14 to allow Leicestershire County Council to begin re-tendering this service. I will share any additional information on the 125 route as soon as this is available to me.

"As a government, we are committed to safeguarding our bus services, which is why we have already provided an additional £8 million to Leicestershire County Council to help end the postcode lottery when it comes to our local buses."
