North West Leicestershire District Council are getting close to finalising three key strategies aimed to shape the future of sports in the area.
Backed by Ashby's Councillor Kenny Horn, the strategies hope to improve local access to high-quality sport and recreation facilities.
The Playing Pitches and Outdoor Sports, Built Facilities and Open Spaces Strategies were given the green light by the NWLDC cabinet on Tuesday 16 December and will now proceed to the next stage.
Each of these three strategies outline where facilities are currently meeting demand and how it could deal with future demand, to accommodate more homes being built in the district in the coming years.
Responding to this news on social media, Cllr Kenny Horn of NWLDC and Ashby Town Council said: 'This is great news and something I've been campaigning for since 2020 but we need to move to the next stage quickly.'
He also said he will be attending a strategy meeting in January to progress these strategies further.
