North West Leicestershire District Council has urged the public not to litter the area with discarded face masks.

The councilhas highlighted the problem and suggested reusable masks would create fewer problems.

A social media post today (Monday) says: "A reusable face covering means less waste to landfill and less chance of it ending up on the street as litter.

"If you need to throw away a single-use face covering, please:

  • Put it in the black bin (not the recycling!)
  • If there is no litter bin, take it home with you."
