North West Leicestershire Conservative Association reveals County Council election candidates for Ashby area

The North West Leicestershire Conservative Association has announced its candidate selection has for next year's County Council elections. 

On May 1, the Association will be fielding a diverse group of experienced councillors and what it says are 'fresh voices' for the eight divisions across North West Leicestershire.

The selected candidates are as follows:

• Ashby Division: Ray Morris — North West Leicestershire Conservatives describe him as 'a respected and experienced District Councillor with a deep understanding of the local area and its needs'.

• Castle Donington and Kegworth Division: Ted Parton — currently serving as a County Councillor, he has recently moved to Kegworth and is looking forward to continuing his work at County Hall representing his new local area.

• Coalville North Division: Craig Smith — the incumbent County Councillor for the division. The Association says he is 'seeking re-election to build on a track record of delivering positive results for Coalville and has consistently worked to address local issues and concerns'.

· Coalville South Division: Aimee Garner — Hugglescote resident Aimee, is standing for election for the first time and the local Conservatives says she 'brings a fresh perspective and a passion for improving services and amenities in the community'.

• Forest and Measham Division: Andrew Woodman — the Association says he is 'an experienced District Councillor who understands the priorities of Forest and Measham residents and will work tirelessly to advocate for them'. His strong ties to the area and extensive council experience 'will make him a valuable representative', say North West Leicestershire Conservatives.

• Ibstock and Appleby Division: Jenny Simmons — a long-serving and effective District Councillor, she is well-known for her work in the local community and says she is looking forward to expanding her role to County Council, with a focus on ensuring rural communities have a strong voice in the council.

• Valley Division: Nick Rushton — the current Leader of Leicestershire County Council, Cllr Rushton has served the Valley Division for many years. The Association says he is 'seeking re-election to continue his strategic leadership and ensure the delivery of essential services for the Valley Division and deliver a robust future for Leicestershire'.

• Whitwick Division: Tony Gillard — the sitting councillor, will be standing again. Tony is well-regarded in Whitwick for his active engagement and long-standing commitment to local issues.

The North West Leicestershire Conservative Association says it is confident that this team, with their blend of experience, local knowledge, and new perspectives, will work hard to deliver positive change and support the communities they represent.

The Association's Chairman, Keith Merrie who is retiring as a County Councillor at this election, expressed his support for the candidates and said: "This is a strong slate of candidates, each dedicated to their communities and with the skills needed to deliver for North West Leicestershire. 

"I believe we have a winning team that will represent local residents with passion and commitment."

The North West Leicestershire Conservatives say they are ready to engage with voters in the months ahead, listening to their concerns and setting out a positive vision for the future of our county. 

A spokesperson added; "With these candidates in place, they look forward to building on their achievements and ensuring the continued success of North West Leicestershire."
