A new primary school for Ashby is set to be completed over the next three years as part of the new Money Hill estate.

The school will form part of the 605-home development which is currently under construction between Nottingham Road and the A511 Ashby bypass.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's planning committee was given an update at last week's meeting.

The Development Consultant for Money Hill, Caroline Chave, spoke to councillors and gave an update on a number of issues connected with the estate.

That included a new school with the site to be handed over to Leicestershire County Council prior to 200 homes being occupied or in April 2026, whichever is the sooner.

The car park is on course to be completed by next April, which is designed to provide the town with an extra 150 spaces - albeit not in the town centre.

It was confirmed that the 'local centre' will form a site to be sold to specialist developer – and the subject of separate planning application.

Cllr Chris Smith also asked for clarification on what is meant by 'local centre'. Ms Chave confirmed that this did mean a local convenience store and complimentary shop units.

The Nottingham Road access is complete and there will be no construction traffic – only for buses, the car park and 100 houses.

Housing is to be made available soon – with sales centres due to open in December and the first homes completed around March next year.

There will also be a 'community facility - with a meeting being arranged for early October so that Town and District Councils can discuss what form this will take.

An application is pending for approval of a bus service extension and maintenance scheme for a bus gate – the No9 bus route will be extended into the site.

This has to be in place before the first 100 houses are built.

Cllr David Whetton raised an enquiry as to why the left turn on Discovery Way, leading towards the bypass, has not been re-opened - he felt this would ease the increased traffic using Nottingham Road to exit Tesco. This is now being looked into.
