The case of a man charged with driving offences after the death of a man following a suspected hit and run near Ashby last December has been adjourned until next month.

Tommy Hunter, from Newhall near Swadlincote, was found dead by the side of Burton Road between Ashby and Boundary on December 11.

Brandon Beesla, 27, of Hillsdale Road in Burton-upon-Trent, has been charged with failing to stop after a road accident and driving a motor vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury.

He was due to appear before Leicester Magistrates last Friday (June 21).

But the case was adjourned until July 19 for the defendant to enter a plea.

Mr Hunter had already been reported missing when he failed to return from a night out.

His family had made a series of appeals for the driver of a vehicle to come forwards.

A man was arrested the next day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but was released under investigation.

Brandon Beesla had previously been named on social media, but was charged with the offences last week.
