Motorist taken to hospital after collision - as police tape off area around Ashby junction

A driver was taken to hospital after a collision close to Ashby town centre today (Monday).

The area was sealed off by police shortly after mid-day - and remained closed into the early afternoon.

Police closed Elford Street at the junction of Derby Road - and The Green where it meets North Street.

Access to the area was also taped off in Brook Street.

Emergency services were concentrated in an area around The Green.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "The road closure relates to a single vehicle collision on North Street, Ashby, around 12.20pm today.  

"The single occupant of the car has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

"We are awaiting confirmation of the extent of the injuries – local road closures remain in place."

An air ambulance was called to the incident, but the injured person was taken to hospital by road.
