Woman is taken to hospital with 'life changing' injuries after collision at junction in Ashby
A driver was taken to hospital after a collision close to Ashby town centre on Monday.
The area was sealed off by police shortly after mid-day - and remained closed into the early afternoon.
Police closed Elford Street at the junction of Derby Road - and The Green where it meets North Street.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said the driver had 'life-changing' injuries as a result of the incident.
Access to the area was also taped off in Brook Street.
Emergency services, including fire and ambulance, were concentrated in an area around The Green.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Officers were called to North Street in Ashby around 12.20pm on Monday, November 18, after a car was involved in a collision.
"The car left the road and collided with a stationary vehicle. The driver of the car - a woman - was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she remains.
"Her condition has been described as life-changing. Local road closures were in place on Monday, but they have since been lifted.
"Enquiries are ongoing into the collision and the circumstances."
An air ambulance was called to the incident, but the injured person was taken to hospital by road.
