Over 100 people volunteered to take part in Ashby's Big Tidy Up on Saturday - with an impressive amount of bags of litter collected between them.

The event was organised by the Rotary Club and involved the Love Ashby Litter Picking Heroes group.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council said: "Ashby's Big Tidy Up took place on Saturday 4th September.

"There were about 100 people out litter picking, including some young children and groups such as Sands Football Club and a group from Tesco and McDonalds.

"Thank you to all involved in making our town nice and tidy."

The Rotary Club of Ashby added: "We had a great time supporting the Ashby Big Tidy Up on Saturday with lots of our club taking part.

"A great community effort making a real difference to our town.

"Well done to all who took part.

"Two of our members went to present Rotary Stars certificates to the 'Love Ashby Litter Picking Heroes' group.

"There were 13 children aged between 3 to 16 who had collected 76 bags of rubbish between them - a wonderful effort and great ambassadors in trying to keep Ashby clean and tidy - well done to all of them showing how much we all 'Love Ashby'."

Ashby Litter Picking Group added: "It was great!

"There were 80 bags at least collected on Saturday. And over 100 people volunteered. Ashby Hastings did a great job organising it.

"On Sunday Ashby Castle Rotary Club gave out certificates to some of the children in the 'Love Ashby Litter Picking Heroes' group, the sun shone and we enjoyed a picnic together."
