More than 100 new coronavirus cases confirmed across Leicester and Leicestershire

More than 100 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the 24 hours before yesterday (Tues) across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Although North West Leicestershire's figure rose by another two new cases, the rate per 100,000 population - 362 - remains the lowest in the county.

Positive tests added to local tolls increased the city and county's combined total by 113 - with four areas declaring a double digit rise in new cases.

Leicester had the most, with 57. There were 56 cases identified across the county.

Broken down to district and borough level, Charnwood saw the sharpest rise, with 18 new cases, meaning that more than 1,000 cases have been confirmed in the borough since the start of the pandemic.

It was closely followed by Blaby with 16 added to its overall toll.

Oadby and Wigston, which has the second highest infection rate in the country, added 14 new cases.

In Melton, three further positive tests were added, while North West Leicestershire and Hinckley and Bosworth's cumulative totals both went up by two.

The lowest rise, of just one case, was seen in Harborough.

The local figures updated at 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 15, are:

  • Leicester – 6,240 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,761
  • Blaby – 688 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 677
  • Charnwood – 1,016 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 546
  • Harborough – 478 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 509
  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 639 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 564
  • Melton – 246 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 480
  • North West Leicestershire – 376 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 362
  • Oadby and Wigston – 649 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,138

The local figures updated at 4.30pm on Monday, September 14, were:

  • Leicester – 6,183 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,745
  • Blaby – 672 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 661
  • Charnwood – 998 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 537
  • Harborough – 477 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 508
  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 637 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 563
  • Melton – 243 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 474
  • North West Leicestershire – 374 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 361
  • Oadby and Wigston – 635 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,113
