North West Leicestershire District Council has cancelled this month's Ashby Artisan Market which was due to have been staged this Saturday (Feb 19).

The move comes ahead of a bad weather forecast for the weekend with Storm Eunice expected to bring high winds to the area - and the event is off due to safety reasons.

The market has been running successfully since last year, but it will now return next month.

A spokesperson for North West Leicestershire District Council said: "Due to the strong winds from Storm Eunice forecast for this weekend, we have taken the decision to cancel the Ashby Artisan Market on Saturday 19 February.

"Unfortunately, the weather conditions mean that it will be unsafe for the event to go ahead for both our traders and the public.

"The market will return as normal on Saturday, March 19."
