Moira Furnace and Country Park has put out an appeal for volunteers to act as boat skippers and crew.

The well-known visitor attraction says, in a social media post, it is offering full training - and plenty of tea and biscuits.

Anyone coming forward will be told they are helping to raise money which will be put back into keeping the venue open and preserving the historically important site for future generations.

For the role of Boat Driver:

• Previous experience driving boats is desirable but not essential as they can train you.

• A commitment to share the half-day shifts throughout the year with the rest of the boat driver team in return for full in-house training.

• Once you have passed the in-house training, you will be sent on a nationally recognised training course for boat drivers, funded by the Moira Furnace.

For the role of Boat Crew:

• All training will be provided, no experience is needed.

• Must be reasonably fit and able.

• Training is given to learn the history behind the boat and the canal and how to interact with customers to ensure they have the best time they can.

The attraction adds it always welcome all volunteers, no matter what area they would like to work in, whether on the boat, in the museum and shop, or out on the grounds. Everyone is welcome to apply.

Anyone interested is urged to come along and ask for Jess, the volunteer coordinator, or email: [email protected].
