Meet the baker behind Ashby's new Cake Shed
By Grace Kennington 29th Mar 2026
Following the closure of The Style Hive in Ashby last summer, Lucy has continued to pursue her passion for baking with her latest venture, the Cake Shed.
The cake shed will be opening on Saturday 4 April, operating with an honesty box system, so customers can leave cash in the tin or pay via a QR code on the stand.
Since closing The Style Hive, Lucy hopes to reconnect with her previous customers.
She said: 'I wanted to start the cake shed so that customers had easier and simple access to my bakes. A lot of customers were missing them since closing The Style Hive, so I thought this would be a lovely cute way to get them back out there.

'It also beings a sense of community to the area. It's nice and easy to visit the cake shed, you can take a nice walk in the sunshine from Ashby through the bath grounds or simply pull right up outside.'
Lucy has been busy, alongside her latest venture, selling custom cakes for special occasions for her business BMBLE Bakehouse, as well as working part-time in Coffee #1 in Ashby.

'I love working with coffee and I get to see a lot of my old customers from The Style Hive. I like to keep myself very busy! Everyone constantly asks me how I do it all and to be honest I have no idea myself.'
The cake shed will be on Lucy's driveway at 5 Cotswold Way in Ashby and will open on set days. On days when it is open, she will be posting on her social media pages what will be available in the shed.
Ahead of opening, she hopes to have cakes available in the cake shed every weekend, as well as possibly in the week during the school holidays.
There will be gluten free options, as well as gluten free and dairy free combined and vegan bakes.

'I'm quite nervous about opening,' said Lucy, 'It's the unknown and it's a new thing for me, I really hope people will visit the cake shed and love it - however, people might not visit at all and I'm really nervous about that.
'Cake sheds are a lot of work! There's a lot that goes into filling them each week, a lot of planning behind the scenes. As well as the baking it takes quite some time to individually wrap and label each bake.
'I've had the shed for nearly a year as I needed time to get my head around it and plan it. I've been working really hard on getting this set up so I really hope people will come and visit.
'I'm excited but so nervous!'
Easter cupcakes will be available for pre-order for next weekend, as well as cookie pies, brownies, cookies, sponges and more in the shed when it opens. There will also be Easter colouring sheets and dog biscuits available free of charge.
The cake shed will be officially opening from 9am on Saturday 4 April.
