Marston's looking for new management for community pub in the heart of Ashby
By Grace Kennington 20th Oct 2026
Marston's are looking for new management to run The White Hart in Ashby, hoping to establish the pub as a local favourite community pub and develop food sales.
According to Marston's, they are looking for 'an operator or management team who thrive in a town centre environment and understands how to drive sales in a successful, wet-led pub.'
A 'wet-led' pub is an establishment that makes the majority of its revenue from the sale of drinks instead of food.
The advert says the pub has weekly sales of approximately £18,500, with 97% of that made from wet sales.
The pub has a long history, running as a public house in the 17th-century. The White Hart is referred to as 'the pub with the bear in the cellar', based on stories of a previous owner keeping a bear in the cellar to help him control rowdy customers.

Now, the pub is known as a great spot to watch sports and enjoy a good pint or two.
Marston's is hoping new management will boost food sales in the pub, establishing it as a good local spot for a bite to eat with high standards and excellent execution.
They also want to boost live music and work with local sports teams past and present to create a busy calendar of weekly activities.
In return, Marston's is offering a 22% share of weekly sales (excluding VAT), along with low ingoing costs, a guaranteed retainer and separate accommodation for owners.
