A man was hit by a car between Measham and Donisthorpe on Sunday night - but the driver did not stop.

Detectives from the Leicestershire Police Force's Complex Investigation Team (CIT) are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

Police were called by the East Midlands Ambulance Service shortly before 10pm after a man in his late 20s was found with injuries in the road – near to the lake, between Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe, Leicestershire.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries to his face and torso and has since been discharged.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "From enquiries carried out so far, the man has said to have walked from the area of Siskin Drive, Measham, in the direction of Donisthorpe, when he was struck by a dark coloured car – which then left the scene.

"The car is believed to have travelled along Measham Road, in the direction of Donisthorpe, before heading towards the Ashby Road crossroads.

"Officers are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

"They are also hoping to speak to anyone who may have seen the victim before the collision or the car either before or after.

"The victim is described as white, slim build, around 5ft 10ins with brown hair and short brown beard. When found injured he was shirtless and wearing grey jogging bottoms."

Detective Sergeant Dan Robberts, from the CIT, said: "We are in the process of piecing together the events of last night and are looking to speak to anyone who may be able to help with this.

"If you live in the area or you were driving through last night – did you see the collision occur?

"Did you see a man matching the description walking in the area? Did you see a dark coloured car travelling on the route given around 9:45pm last night? Please also check CCTV and dashcam – information or footage you have could assist with our investigation."

Currently no one has been arrested.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting crime reference number 22* 472304.
