A man in his 50s was left with 'life-threatening injuries' following a collision between two cars near Ashby last night (Saturday).
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for a witness to come forward following the incident on Moira Road in Shellbrook.
Police were called to the area just before 9.30pm following a report of a collision involving a silver Kia Ceed and a black Nissan Qashqai.
Leicestershire Police report that the driver of the Kia - a man in his 50s - was taken to hospital and is continuing to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 40s, suffered minor injuries. No-one was arrested.
Detective Sergeant Jack Cornick, from the SCIU, said: "From what we know so far, the driver of a small silver or light-coloured car stopped at the scene, but then left prior to emergency services arriving.
"We're particularly keen to speak to that person about what they saw or any dashcam footage they might've captured. If that was you, I'd urge you to get in touch with us as soon as you can.
"I'm also appealing for anyone else who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to come forward. Anything you're able to tell us could help."
The road has long been considered dangerous for motorists with a record of previous such incidents and was closed overnight and into Sunday morning.
