Love Your Neighbourhood returns for biggest ever Month of Action
By James Smith 25th Apr 2026
People across North West Leicestershire are being invited to come together once again as NWLDC's biggest environmental community initiative returns - this time as a full Month of Action.
Following the success of the Love Your Neighbourhood Weekend of Action in 2024 and the Week of Action in 2025, North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is expanding the initiative even further.
For the whole month of June 2026, residents, community groups, schools, businesses and local organisations are encouraged to take part in activities that help make neighbourhoods greener, safer, healthier and more inclusive.
Last year, over the course of the week, 298 volunteers took part which equated to 1906 volunteering hours. 60 litter pickers and hi vis' were given out which led to 146 bags of litter collected across the district.
Love Your Neighbourhood encourages people of all ages to get involved, whether as part of a group, business or individually.
Ideas for getting involved include:
- Community litter picks
- Planting wildflowers or hanging baskets
- Recycling initiatives or events
- Installing communal composting bins
- Helping elderly neighbours with their gardens
- Preparing shared spaces for wildlife.
Businesses can support Love Your Neighbourhood by:
- Organising staff litter picks or volunteering days
- Supporting a local group or charity through a team challenge
- Sponsoring a community event by emailing [email protected]
Individuals can also take part by:
- Litter‑picking their street
- Helping a neighbour
- Registering volunteer hours through a community event.
Applications are now open to register an event for the Love Your Neighbourhood Month of Action 2026.
Organisers simply need to let the council know:
- What activity they are planning
- How many volunteers will be taking part
- How long the event will last.
Every event recorded will help show the collective impact communities are making across the district.
Groups registering an event can also use the same form to request free litter picking equipment, including children's kits.
Groups and volunteers can register their event at: www.nwleics.gov.uk/LYNmonth26
The launch week of Love Your Neighbourhood Month of Action also coincides with World Environment Day on Friday 5 June and Volunteers' Week 2026, offering even more opportunities to get involved or spread activities throughout the month.
People are encouraged to share their efforts on social media using #LYNMonthofAction.

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at NWLDC, said: "Love Your Neighbourhood is all about people coming together to take pride in the places they live.
"Over the last two years we've seen how much difference local action can make, and I'm really proud that in 2026 we're expanding this into a full Month of Action.
"Whether it's a litter pick, planting project or helping a neighbour, every small action adds up to something positive for our communities."
