An Ashby opticians has been busy collecting items for a community foodbank in the area.

Specsavers in Market Street has been donating one item, for every customer feedback form completed, to the Ashby Foodbank at Holy Trinity Church.

The team have donated 120 items in total so far, including non-perishables food items and hygiene products.

Kuljinder Bains, Specsavers Ashby store director, said: "We're really grateful for the support we've received during our appeal.

"We always try to support the foodbank whenever we can, and as the winter months can be particularly difficult, it was so important for us to help.

"I'd like to thank our customers for their ongoing support and to everyone who completed a feedback form.

"We'll be continuing the initiative with monthly donations and encourage anyone who can, to drop off any items that they can spare."

Ashby Foodbank provides three days' nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

The charity is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

You can make a donation in-store at 55-57, Market Street, or, for more information, call 01530 410790 or click HERE.
