A Market Street restaurant that counts snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan among its fans, has received an award for being the 'Best in Ashby'.

Little India was given the accolade this month by The Restaurant Critic website.

The restaurant received an impressive trophy to mark the award after it was given a glowing review.

Among the praise handed out was that Little India was 'a journey into the heart of India's rich culinary landscape'.

The business was started by Suned Khan who created the vision for the restaurant.

Now his son Anis, and uncle Imran, run it on a day to day basis, and it has been run as a family since 2017.

Little India's owners were understandably delighted with the accolade.

Anis told Ashby Nub News: "We started off as a small 30 seater restaurant.

"Now we are a 70-odd seater after extending in 2021.

"We've also been ranked number one Indian restaurant on TripAdvisor since we gained momentum in 2018. We've also had two visits from snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan."

A post on social media added: "We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all!  Little India has been awarded as the Best Restaurant in Ashby.

"At some point during 2023, unknown to us, a secret diner visited our restaurant to review our food and service.

"It was a lovely surprise to learn about this anonymous critic and their experience, which ultimately led to this wonderful award.

"It's a reminder that every dish we prepare and every interaction we have with our guests carries significance and has the potential to make a lasting impression.

Little India received this award as

"We want to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude to all our customers who have supported us along this journey since 2017."

The Restaurant Critic review said: "Every now and then, you stumble upon a gem that makes your dining experiences unforgettable.

"Little India, nestled in the quaint town of Ashby De La Zouch, is one such treasure.

"This restaurant has not only captivated my taste buds but also transported me to the vibrant streets of India with its authentic flavours and heartwarming hospitality.

"From the moment you step through the door, Little India welcomes you with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The decor is tastefully done, blending traditional Indian elements with contemporary design, creating an ambiance that is both comfortable and exotic.

"But it's the food that truly stands out. Every dish at Little India is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of India. The menu is diverse, offering a broad range of dishes from various corners of the country. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or mild tandooris, vegetarian delights or succulent meat dishes, there's something for every palate here.

It is now a 70-seater venue in Market Street

"The staff at Little India are attentive and polite, ensuring your dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. They are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations based on your preferences.

"In conclusion, Little India is more than just a restaurant. It's a journey into the heart of India's rich culinary landscape. It's a place where every dish tells a story, and every bite takes you on a flavourful adventure. It's truly a feast for the senses."
