Local Labour group calls for better housing, finance and management from North West Leicestershire District Council

North West Leicestershire District Council has been called out by the North West Leicestershire Labour Group, saying 'it's time for a Council that works for everyone.'
In a statement published by the Labour group, 'The [District] Council's own Quarter 1, 2025/6 Performance Monitoring Report tells a sad story: housing dissatisfaction, complaints going unanswered, finances mismanaged, and environmental targets repeatedly delayed.'
The Labour group describe resident housing satisfaction as 'still nowhere near where it needs to be' with repair works taking more time.
In the report put together by the Labour Group, they say 'the picture is just as troubling when it comes to complaints. The Council sets itself a goal of responding to 90% on time but is managing only 74%.
'The most serious, Stage 2 complaints, sees this drop to a shocking 61%. Too many residents feel ignored.'
Councillor Simon Lambeth, Labour Lead for Corporate Governance and Finance said: 'Governance must be more than just slogans. Repeating 'well-run council' will not restore public confidence. Transparency and delivery will. That means publishing accounts on time, admitting when targets are missed, and focussing on fixing problems rather than disguising them.'
In addition to this, Cllr John Legrys, Leader of the North West Leicestershire Labour Group said 'residents deserve better than the current reality, but they also deserve to know that better is possible. A council that listens to tenants, respects complaints, spends money wisely, and leads on climate action is not a pipe dream. It is achievable with the right priorities and leadership.'
