Financial experts from Ashby-based firm ThinCats have been running free workshops for Ashby School students, to help them develop the key financial skills they need for life after school.

ThinCats, the finance provider with a head office in Ashby de la Zouch, approached the school to suggest running the workshops, drawing on its staff's expertise and experience to provide students with valuable information and advice.

More than 250 Year 13 students have now taken part in the sessions, which use activities, quizzes and discussions to highlight the basic financial skills they need to take their next steps with confidence.

Mike Hackett, ThinCats' Head of Business Development, said: "When leaving school and heading out into the wider world, we know that many young people find themselves lacking in the basic financial skills necessary to survive on their own.

"Whether their path leads to university, the world of apprenticeships or into a job, knowing how to budget, how bank accounts work, and the difference between debit and credit are all crucial.

"ThinCats staff have so much financial knowledge and experience, so it was the perfect opportunity to share some relevant tips with students at a key point in their lives.

"Our staff came from teams across the company, including Transaction Management, Business Development and Finance, all bringing their own insights and life experiences to illustrate the basics of finance."

Vikki Rundle-Brown, Head of School for Ashby Sixth Form, said: "We were delighted to be working with ThinCats on this workshop which has helped our students to understand the financial skills they need for life after Ashby School.

"This is just one of the many ways in which we support students to develop lifelong skills and values to ensure they go on to become responsible, resilient and successful citizens."
