Leicestershire Council to launch free travel, better connecting areas around Ashby

Free travel on a new on-demand bus service in Leicestershire is set to launch. The new North West Leicestershire FoxConnect service will connect "key destinations" such as Coalville, Ibstock, Measham and Market Bosworth, Leicestershire County Council has said.
It will run Monday to Saturday, between 6am and 7.30pm, with bookings able to be made on the app or by phone, the council added. It will cover three "zones", including connections into Hinckley and Bosworth borough and rural North West Leicestershire.
Residents can also benefit from free journeys when the buses launch on Monday, July 14. The new routes follow on from the roll-out of FoxConnect in other county areas, including Market Harborough and Melton.
The first of the new zones, Zone Eight, will cover rural areas in North West Leicestershire. Its destinations include Coalville, Ibstock and Market Bosworth.
It will serve:
- Battram
- Donington le Heath
- Heather
- Hugglescote (Standard Hill)
- Junction of A447/B582
- Normanton le Heath
- Snibston
Zone Nine, will have stops at Atherstone, Market Bosworth and Measham. It will serve:
- Appleby Magna
- Appleby Parva
- Snarestone
- Swepstone
- Newton Burgoland
- Norton-Juxta-Twycross
- Little Orton
- Orton-on-the-Hill
- Twycross
- Little Twycross
- Gopsall
- Shackerstone
- Congerstone
- Odstone
- Sheepy Magna
- Pinwall
- Ratcliffle Culey
- Wellsborough
- Sibson
- Atterton
- Upton
- Shenton
- Witherley
- Fenny Drayton
FoxConnect Zone 11 will stop at Castle Donington, East Midlands Gateway, and Coalville.
It will serve:
- Breedon on the Hill
- Hemington
- Lockington
- Wilson
- Isley Walton
- Tonge
- Worthington
- Newbold Coleorton
- Coleorton
- Church Town
- Farm Town
- Sinope
Councillor Charles Whitford, cabinet member for highways, transport and waste, said: "Whether it's commuting, getting to health appointments, shopping or travelling to leisure facilities, it's vital to help our residents stay connected. The new routes are developed with residents in mind."
The county council is set to run a series of roadshows for residents to find out more about the new FoxConnect routes. These include:
- Coalville Library – Monday, June 23, between 11am – 1pm
- Hinckley Library – Friday, June 27, between 11am – 1pm
Cllr Whitford added: "Bookable FoxConnect services are convenient and flexible, offering the ability to travel at a time that suits, and I'd encourage residents to visit the roadshows to find out more."
