A property which was once a former pub and restaurant in Ashby has been given permission to run a hairdressers salon.

The Flaxdressers in Wood Street is a well known building sited opposite Upper Church Street.

It has been allowed a change of use of an existing outbuilding for use as a hairdressers following an application to North West Leicestershire District Council planners.

A council official says that the existing outbuilding is located within the rear garden of The Flaxdressers.

The applicant, Mr Adam Stanley, says the residential outbuilding was previously used as a garden shed.

There were some concerns voiced by Ashby de la Zouch Town Council at a recent planning meeting.

The Council said it did not object to this application but has concerns about traffic coming out of the property as it is situated on a busy road at a T-junction.

It was suggested that no customer parking is made available at the premises to minimise the amount of vehicles entering and leaving the premises.

The district council said application could go ahead as the principle of the development was acceptable.

It added: "The proposal is not considered to have any significant detrimental design, heritage, residential amenity or highway impacts."
